i've run a bincancel bot for the newsgroups in the austrian usenet hierarchy at.*, where binaries are not allowed.
a netizen felt disturbed by this and initiated legal proceedings against me for the delict of "datenbeschädigung" ("manipulation/destruction of data") according to §126A of the austrian penal code.
the whole thing started on sept. 29, 1998, and ended july 16, 1999, when the attorney general decided there's no need for further prosecution. it was not brought to court.
my thank goes to all the people from the austrian usenet community for supporting me and especially to ingo and gerhard for organizing the legal defense fund, which was able to provide for most of the costs (which, at least for you US people, weren't that scary anyways, about US$1500).
